About Lakeside Stories

Lakeside Stories Magazine

came to fruition after Amanda Triplett and Pamela Walker moved in 2005 to an exquisite little community in Locke, New York.  After years of teaching writing and working in the advertising arena, these ladies were exhausted by the hustle and bustle of Atlanta, Georgia.  The culture of the Finger Lakes, with it's cool summers, rural happenings, and tight-knit communities won over the hearts of these newcomers.  Amanda, a creative writing teacher, began writing freelance articles for neighhboring newspapers and quickly became interested in the diner life, wineries, and local history.  Not only did southern Cayuga county and it's neighboring areas boast natural beauty, but it also presented the perfect place to raise children and connect with other artists.

During a routine visit to Barb's Diner in Locke, one of the customers commented about a recent article Amanda wrote on diner life for the Auburn Citizen paper and stated that it would be wonderful to have a publication that really captured the essence of the Cayuga-Owasco region. Thus began the journey toward Lakeside Stories Magazine.  Thank you for all of your support and encouragement.  You've made us feel welcome in this flourishing area, and most of all, we love your stories.  Every person has one to share.

Amanda Triplett
Publisher
Contact Me

Amanda Triplett, Publisher, was born in Dalton, Georgia, and grew up telling stories to her younger brother and cousins.  She states, "I loved entertaining my family and friends from an early age.  My grandmother was a writer, and I would sit and flip through her books and dream about seeing my own stories in print."  Amanda excelled in writing and remembers selling her poetry in fourth grade for a quarter, which supported her Jungle Juice addiction.

Obtaining an English degree in college from the University of West Georgia was the logical path for this would-be writer, and Amanda quickly moved into the position of Editor for the college newspaper.  Amanda taught drama for a few years and then returned to the classroom for graduate school at Agnes Scott College, a private liberal arts program, where she earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching English.  She has taught students in middle school, high school, and college in both Georgia and upstate New York, as well as writing for numerous publications on the side.  Currently, she lives with her family in Locke and plans to pass on her passion for storytelling to her three children: Ella, Savannah, and Anthony.

Laura Gates-Lupton
Associate Editor
Contact Me

Laura Gates-Lupton is a writer and editor who lives in a lovely old farmhouse in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of New York State with her husband, Chet, their three children, and two cats. When she isn't busy homeschooling or doing tons of laundry, she's dreaming up twists and turns for one of her stories, or reading someone else's, often staying up way too late at night. Laura's stories and articles have appeared in Woman's World Magazine, Rainbow Rumpus, Kid Mag Writers and Highlights for Children. She is currently working on a novel for teens.

Cynthia Sarver
Copy Editor
Contact Me

Cynthia Sarver is an Assistant Professor of English Education at SUNY Cortland.  She originally hails from the Midwest, but spent her graduate school years in Los Angeles.  She loves Central New York for many reasons, but especially for the way its big sky and rolling hills dotted with farmhouses reminds her a little of her Wisconsin childhood and a little of Norway - her mother's childhood home.  She and her partner and their 3-year-old son live in Cortland.

Pamela Walker
Business Manager
Contact Me

Pam Walker comes to Lakeside Stories from a 15 year advertising career in Atlanta, Georgia, where she managed multi-million dollar accounts for Toyota, The Atlanta Falcons, Wendys restaurants, and other national chains.  She grew up in Californina in a family of accountants and explorers and remembers fondly the days that she rode on the back of her father's motocycle in the desert, always wanting to explore the outdoors.  Pam is excited about meeting the design needs of the magazine and about working with the readers in the region to better understand the flourishing rural culture here.  Pam lives with her family in Locke and with her four dogs, one of which seems to get skunked on a monthly basis!
